Moving Forward! 50+ DANCE for Mobility

This Dance-based exercise class is suitable for older people with impaired mobility. For example, those who are recovering from injury, illness, chronic pain or those generally requiring assistance to walk and move.

The class begins seated in chairs, where the focus is upper body mobility and coordination. There is always an option to remain seated throughout the class, or for those who would like to move to standing positions (with assistance if required) we utilise hand railings (ballet barrés) to help guide and improve balance, proprioception and build lower body strength, stability and mobility. We play a broad selection of inspiring and uplifting music and we aim to help participants find their own unique expression through movement and music.

The emphasis for these classes is on experiencing the joys and benefits of dance while creatively addressing symptom-specific concerns related to balance, cognition, motor skill, depression/ anxiety, physical confidence and social connection.

Please Note* if you require assistance to walk, it is a requirement that you attend the class with a carer or family member. We encourage them to participate as well, so that they can provide assistance and show their support and encouragement throughout the class. All carers or family members providing assistance participate in the class free of charge.

    This class is designed with carers and family members in mind. You are the crucial ingredient for making this experience a positive and successful one! When you attend our classes you will be our valued guest , and like all VIPs we want you to be at the centre of the action. You too will join in and have fun. We can’t do this without you!
