DANCE is for Everyone.

A FREE dance workshop for younger and older participants

Whether you're four years old or sixty-four years old, this will be a fun, uplifting and creative activity. Through dance, dress-ups and story telling, this movement workshop encourages social connection, confidence, and physical and mental wellbeing. A positive and creative shared learning experience for young and old!

During the 2023 Seniors Festival in February 'Wellbeing In Motion' is hosting a free dance workshop for pre-school aged children (aged between 4 - 5 years) with seniors (aged 60 years or over) culminating in a performance for family and friends.

This workshop will provide a stimulating and positive shared experience for young and old through creative movement, personal expression, physical storytelling and dance, fostering inter-generational social connection, healthy physical activity, creativity and physical and mental wellbeing.

The workshop is inspired by two of ABC's recent research/ social experiments:

1. Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds https://iview.abc.net.au/show/old-people-s-home-for-4-year-olds

2. Keep On Dancing

https://iview.abc.net.au/show/keep-on-dancing

In both inspiring examples of works in arts-health, the research has demonstrated that our ageing population can benefit greatly from the sense of confidence, motivation, self-esteem, and empowerment that come from activities which provide cognitive stimulation, creativity and imagination.

Dance is an activity which can provide a multi-faceted approach to wellbeing, not only developing physical strength, stamina, mobility, stability, balance and coordination, but also providing neural and cognitive development through memory recall, connection to music, rhythm, creative thinking and social connection.
